Powder-white beaches and quiet luxury
Anguilla is a low coral island surrounded by exceptionally fine white-sand beaches and clear water. Shoal Bay East, Rendezvous Bay and Meads Bay are the showpieces, and the resorts are mostly low-rise and discreet. The island is known for its food, from upscale restaurants to beach barbecue shacks serving crayfish and ribs. Boat racing is the national sport, with big regattas in summer. Day trips run to uninhabited cays such as Sandy Island and Prickly Pear, and St Martin is a short ferry ride away.
