Antarctic Peninsula

Icebergs, penguins and the last great wilderness

The Antarctic Peninsula reaches north towards South America, and most visitors cross the Drake Passage from Ushuaia to reach it in the southern summer, from about November to March. Expedition ships sail through channels such as the narrow, cliff-lined Lemaire Channel and land by Zodiac at places like Paradise Harbour and Neko Harbour, among gentoo and Adélie penguins. Humpback and minke whales feed in the bays, and seals rest on floating ice. Visits follow strict guidelines to protect the continent.
