A dramatic harbour and a tropical national park
Pago Pago lies on one of the deepest natural harbours in the South Pacific, on the island of Tutuila, walled by steep rainforest-covered mountains including Rainmaker Mountain. It is the base for the National Park of American Samoa, which protects rainforest, coral reefs and the fa'a Samoa way of life across Tutuila and the Manu'a Islands. Trails climb Mount Alava for views over the harbour, and the remote island of Ofu has one of the most beautiful beaches and reefs in the Pacific.
