Benin's busy port and commercial heart
Cotonou is Benin's economic capital and main port, lying between the Atlantic and Lake Nokoué. The Dantokpa Market is one of the largest in West Africa, spreading across the banks of the lagoon and selling everything from textiles to vodun fetish items. The Fondation Zinsou promotes contemporary African art, and the Amazon statue on the waterfront honours the female warriors of the Dahomey kingdom. Zémidjans, motorbike taxis, are the usual way to get around.
