Bonaire

Shore diving and pink flamingos

Bonaire's entire coastline is protected as the Bonaire National Marine Park, and the reefs start just metres from the shore, so divers simply drive to marked yellow stones along the coast and walk in. It has long been one of the world's best-regarded shore-diving destinations. The island is dry and quiet, with cactus scrub, the Washington-Slagbaai National Park in the north and pink salt pans in the south, where flamingos feed and old slave huts stand by the shore. Lac Bay's shallow lagoon is ideal for windsurfing.
