Golf carts, reef dives and Caribbean calm
Ambergris Caye lies just inside the Belize Barrier Reef, part of the second-longest reef system in the world. San Pedro is the main town, where golf carts outnumber cars and wooden piers stretch into clear shallow water. Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, a short boat ride away, offer superb snorkelling with nurse sharks, rays and turtles. Divers head out to the Great Blue Hole and the outer atolls. Seafood is excellent, especially lobster in season.
