Design, saunas and islands on the Baltic
Helsinki is a calm, well-designed city wrapped around bays and islands. The white Lutheran Cathedral crowns Senate Square, the red-brick Uspenski Cathedral looks east, and the Design District is full of Finnish furniture and glass. Ferries run from the Market Square to Suomenlinna, an 18th-century sea fortress spread across several islands. Sauna is a way of life here: public saunas such as Löyly and Allas Sea Pool let you sweat and then plunge into the Baltic, even in winter.
