Central America's largest city and museums
Guatemala City is the largest city in Central America and most travellers pass through it on arrival, heading on to Antigua. It rewards a short stay for its museums: the Popol Vuh Museum holds fine Maya ceramics, and the Ixchel Museum is devoted to Indigenous textiles. The historic centre, Zona 1, is built around the Plaza de la Constitución, the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Zona 4's regenerated Cuatro Grados Norte has restaurants and bars. Use registered taxis or app cabs to get around.
