Isle of Man

Celtic heritage and the famous TT races

The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown Dependency in the middle of the Irish Sea, with a Celtic heritage and a parliament, Tynwald, that claims to be the oldest continuously running in the world. The Laxey Wheel, a giant Victorian waterwheel, is its most famous sight. Heritage railways include a steam line to Port Erin and an electric mountain railway to the summit of Snaefell. Castletown has the medieval Castle Rushen, and Peel has a castle on an islet. Each spring the TT motorcycle races take over the island's roads.
