Seafront green, colonial buildings and curry
Colombo is a busy port city and most travellers' arrival point. Galle Face Green is the seafront lawn where families gather at sunset and street vendors fry isso vadai, prawn fritters. The Fort district holds colonial buildings, and the Pettah market is a maze of trades. The Gangaramaya Temple is an eclectic Buddhist complex, and the Beira Lake's Seema Malaka is a calm pavilion designed by Geoffrey Bawa. Eat hoppers, kottu roti and rice and curry, and try crab curry.
