Luxembourg City

A fortress capital above deep green gorges

Luxembourg City is built on a rocky plateau cut by the deep valleys of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers, and its old fortifications earned it the name Gibraltar of the North. Its old quarters and fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can explore the Bock Casemates, tunnels carved into the rock, and walk the Chemin de la Corniche, often called Europe's most beautiful balcony, above the old Grund district. The Grand Ducal Palace is in the old town, and the modern Kirchberg plateau holds EU institutions and the MUDAM art museum.
