Museums and a traditional souk on a Gulf bay
Doha curves around a bay, with its tower-lined West Bay district facing the old city across the Corniche. Its museums are the main draw: the Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I. M. Pei, and the National Museum of Qatar, shaped like a desert rose crystal. Souq Waqif, rebuilt in traditional style, is the place for spices, falconry shops and evening dinners, and traditional dhows moor along the waterfront. Beyond the city, the dunes of Khor al-Udaid reach the sea.
