A quiet island of reefs and rainforest
Tobago is quiet and unhurried compared with Trinidad. Pigeon Point has the island's postcard beach, with a thatched jetty and turquoise water, and glass-bottomed boats run out to Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool, a shallow sandbar in the middle of the sea. The Main Ridge Forest Reserve, established in 1776, is considered one of the oldest legally protected forests in the Western Hemisphere, and is full of birds. Fishing villages like Castara and Charlotteville are relaxed places to stay, and leatherback turtles nest on northern beaches.
