St John

A national park island in the US Virgin Islands

Around two-thirds of St John is covered by Virgin Islands National Park, so its hills are wooded and its bays largely undeveloped. Trunk Bay has an underwater snorkelling trail marked with signs on the reef, and Cinnamon Bay, Maho Bay and Honeymoon Beach are just as beautiful, with turtles grazing on sea grass. Trails lead to the ruins of old sugar plantations, such as Annaberg, and to petroglyphs at Reef Bay. Cruz Bay is the small, lively main town, reached by ferry from St Thomas.
