A mountain principality of ski slopes and valleys
Andorra is a tiny, mountainous country between France and Spain, high in the Pyrenees. In winter, its large ski areas of Grandvalira and Vallnord draw skiers from both neighbours. In summer, the same valleys are crossed by hiking trails, including the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley, a UNESCO-listed glacial landscape. Andorra la Vella, one of Europe's highest capitals, is known for duty-free shopping and the Caldea spa complex. Small Romanesque churches with stone bell towers dot the valleys, and Catalan is the official language.
