A beach for every day of the year
Antigua is known for its many beaches, with a local claim of one for every day of the year, from the calm Caribbean bays of the west coast to Half Moon Bay on the Atlantic side. English Harbour is the sailing centre of the island, and its Nelson's Dockyard, a UNESCO-listed Georgian naval base, is still in use. Shirley Heights overlooks the harbour and hosts a Sunday evening party with steel bands. Sister island Barbuda has long stretches of pink-tinged sand and a large frigate bird colony.
