Aitutaki

One of the Pacific's most beautiful lagoons

Aitutaki, a short flight north of Rarotonga, is a small island surrounded by a vast triangular lagoon of turquoise water, dotted with small uninhabited islands called motu. Lagoon cruises stop to snorkel with giant trevally and giant clams, and at One Foot Island, Tapuaetai, where the sandbar and shallows are extraordinarily beautiful. The island itself is quiet, with a few resorts, village churches and a gentle rhythm that suits a few days of doing very little.
