The Caribbean's wild nature island
Dominica is the least developed of the eastern Caribbean islands and proudly calls itself the Nature Island. Its volcanic mountains are cloaked in rainforest, cut by rivers and waterfalls such as Trafalgar Falls. The Boiling Lake, a flooded fumarole, is reached on a tough full-day hike through the Valley of Desolation in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO site. Champagne Reef has warm bubbles rising from the seabed, and sperm whales live offshore year-round. The Kalinago Territory is home to the island's Indigenous Kalinago people.
