A Black Sea resort of palms and odd towers
Batumi is Georgia's summer playground on the Black Sea, a city of pebble beaches, palm-lined boulevards and a skyline of eccentric modern towers. The seafront promenade stretches for kilometres, passing the moving Ali and Nino sculpture, whose two metal figures slowly pass through each other. North of town, the Batumi Botanical Garden climbs a green hillside above the sea. The city is also home to Adjarian khachapuri, the boat-shaped bread filled with cheese, butter and an egg.
