Oceania
Chamorro culture, war history and warm, clear bays in the western Pacific.
Guam is a US territory and the largest island in Micronesia, with an Indigenous Chamorro culture layered with centuries of Spanish, Japanese and American influence. Tumon Bay's calm lagoon is lined with hotels, while Hagåtña has the Plaza de España and Latte Stone Park. War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Two Lovers Point and the protected beaches of Ritidian Point fill out a visit.
Guam is compact, busy and familiar in many ways, with shopping malls and American chains next to Chamorro fiestas, red rice and kelaguen. Snorkelling and diving are easy and excellent. A hire car is the simplest way around. The dry season from January to May is best; July to November is the wet season and the main risk period for typhoons.
January, February, March, April.
