Harbour skyline, dim sum and hiking trails minutes from the city.
Hong Kong squeezes skyscrapers, markets and mountains into a small space. Victoria Harbour is the centrepiece, best seen from the Star Ferry or the Peak, while Mong Kok's street markets, the temples of Sheung Wan and the neon of Kowloon fill the city in between. Much of the territory is country park, from the Dragon's Back ridge to Lantau Island's Big Buddha and the beaches of Sai Kung.
Eating is the main event: dim sum, roast goose, wonton noodles, milk tea and seafood in harbourside villages. The MTR, trams, buses and ferries are efficient and all take the Octopus card. October to December is ideal, with dry, clear days; summer is hot and humid, and typhoon warnings are possible from June to September.
