Reef diving in the Bay Islands
Roatán lies off Honduras's Caribbean coast on the Mesoamerican Reef, and its coral walls begin just offshore, making it one of the most affordable places in the Caribbean to learn to dive. West Bay has the island's best beach, with snorkelling straight from the sand, and West End is a relaxed village of dive shops, bars and restaurants on the water. Whale sharks sometimes pass by, especially in spring. The island's English-speaking islanders and Garifuna communities shape its food and music. Neighbouring Utila is cheaper still.
