Tegucigalpa

Honduras's hilly capital

Tegucigalpa spreads across hills in a highland valley, a working capital that few visitors linger in. The historic centre has the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Miguel, with its gilded altarpiece, the Central Park and the Museum for National Identity. On the hill of El Picacho, a large Christ statue overlooks the city. Outside town, the old silver-mining villages of Santa Lucía and Valle de Ángeles have cobbled streets, colonial churches and craft shops, and La Tigra National Park protects cloud forest in the hills.
