Kampot

Pepper farms and a sleepy river town

Kampot is a slow, pretty town on the Praek Tuek Chhu river, with crumbling French colonial shophouses and a relaxed café scene. The surrounding countryside is famous for Kampot pepper, and farms welcome visitors to see how it is grown. Bokor National Park rises behind the town, with the eerie remains of an abandoned French hill station on the summit. Nearby Kep is known for its crab market, where the day's catch is cooked with fresh green pepper.
