Siem Reap

The riverside town beside Angkor

Siem Reap grew from a small riverside town into the base for visiting Angkor, and it rewards a few evenings of its own. The old French quarter around the Old Market has cafés, craft shops and the busy bars of Pub Street. Phare, the Cambodian Circus, puts on acrobatic shows performed by young artists, and cooking classes teach dishes such as fish amok. Beyond town, boat trips cross the Tonle Sap lake to stilt villages and floating communities.
