A Mediterranean capital of food, art and nightlife
Beirut sits on a headland on the Mediterranean, and its long seafront Corniche leads to the Pigeon Rocks, two sea stacks off Raouché. The National Museum holds a fine collection of Phoenician and Roman antiquities, and neighbourhoods such as Gemmayzeh, Mar Mikhael and Hamra are full of bars, galleries and cafés. The food is the great draw: mezze spreads, man'oushe for breakfast and fresh fish by the water. Byblos, the Jeita Grotto and the mountains are all within easy reach.
