Curonian Spit

Towering dunes between lagoon and sea

The Curonian Spit is a thin ribbon of sand nearly 100 kilometres long, shared between Lithuania and Russia's Kaliningrad region, with the open Baltic on one side and the calm Curonian Lagoon on the other. Some of Europe's highest drifting dunes rise near Nida, where the Parnidis Dune gives huge views. Fishing villages keep their painted wooden houses and weather vanes, Juodkrantė has the Hill of Witches sculpture trail, and white beaches line the sea side. Access is by ferry from Klaipėda.
