Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

Waking to the song of the indri

Andasibe-Mantadia is the easiest rainforest to reach from Antananarivo, a few hours' drive east. It is famous for the indri, the largest living lemur, whose eerie wailing calls carry across the forest each morning. Guided walks in the Analamazaotra reserve and the wilder Mantadia section find diademed sifakas, brown lemurs, leaf-tailed geckos and a huge variety of chameleons. Night walks reveal mouse lemurs and frogs. Community-run reserves such as Mitsinjo also offer excellent guiding.
