Nouméa

French flair in the South Pacific

Nouméa, the capital of New Caledonia, brings a French atmosphere to the South Pacific, with bakeries, markets and restaurants around the Place des Cocotiers. The bays of Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons are lined with beaches and cafés, and the lagoon around New Caledonia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Tjibaou Cultural Centre, designed by Renzo Piano with tall wooden structures inspired by Kanak huts, celebrates Kanak culture. Boats run to the Amédée Lighthouse and its surrounding reef.
