A raised coral island of caves and chasms
Niue is a raised coral island in the South Pacific, sometimes called The Rock, with no sandy beaches but a coastline riddled with caves, chasms and rock pools. Sea tracks lead down to places such as the Togo Chasm, with its jagged coral pinnacles, the Limu Pools and the Matapa Chasm, a sheltered swimming spot once reserved for royalty. The water is exceptionally clear, and humpback whales and spinner dolphins often come close to shore. Niue is also recognised as a Dark Sky Nation.
