Rolling orange dunes and Bedouin camps
The Wahiba Sands, officially Sharqiya Sands, cover a large area of eastern Oman with long ridges of orange and honey-coloured dunes. Bedouin families still live on the fringes, and desert camps offer dune drives, camel rides and nights under the stars. The sands are often combined with Wadi Bani Khalid and Wadi Shab, where turquoise pools lie between canyon walls, and with Ras al-Jinz on the coast, where green turtles come ashore to nest.
