Caribbean islands on stilts
Bocas del Toro is a scattering of islands off Panama's northern Caribbean coast. Bocas Town, on Isla Colón, is a lively place of brightly painted wooden buildings on stilts over the water, with water taxis to the other islands. Starfish Beach has calm water full of sea stars, Red Frog Beach on Isla Bastimentos is named after tiny poison dart frogs, and Zapatilla Cays are postcard-perfect uninhabited islands. Snorkelling, surfing and dolphin-spotting fill the days, and the archipelago's Afro-Caribbean heritage shows in its food and music.
