San Blas Islands

Guna Yala's palm-dotted islands

The San Blas Islands lie off Panama's Caribbean coast in Guna Yala, an autonomous territory run by the Guna people, who have kept firm control over tourism. Many of the islands are tiny, with a few palm trees, white sand and clear water, and stays are simple: cabins or hammocks, fresh seafood and little else. The Guna are known for molas, intricately layered textile panels. Visits are usually arranged from Panama City, including the road journey and boat, and sailing trips cross to Colombia.
