Fann Mountains

Turquoise lakes among jagged peaks

The Fann Mountains pack scores of lakes and a crowd of jagged peaks, the highest over 5,000 metres, into a small area, making them the most popular trekking region in Tajikistan. Iskanderkul, a turquoise lake named after Alexander the Great, can be reached by road from Dushanbe. The Haft Kul, or Seven Lakes, form a chain of different blues and greens in the Shing valley. Multi-day treks link the Alauddin and Kulikalon lakes over high passes, with homestays in mountain villages along the way.
