Night markets, temples and mountain hot springs
Taipei is friendly, efficient and devoted to food. Evenings mean night markets such as Shilin, Raohe and Ningxia, with beef noodle soup, oyster omelettes, pepper buns and bubble tea, which was invented in Taiwan. The National Palace Museum holds one of the world's greatest collections of Chinese art, and Longshan Temple is thick with incense. Climb Elephant Mountain for the view of Taipei 101, soak in Beitou's hot springs, and take the train to the old mining town of Jiufen or the Pingxi line.
