North America
A volcanic main island and a string of small sailing islands to the south.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines stretches from the green, mountainous main island down a chain of small islands popular with sailors. Saint Vincent has La Soufrière volcano, black-sand beaches and the Botanical Gardens in Kingstown, among the oldest in the Americas. To the south, Bequia's Admiralty Bay, Mustique, Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, with turtles and reef-protected water, are the highlights.
Life moves slowly, around ferries, boats and beach bars serving grilled fish, roast breadfruit and local rum. Many visitors explore by yacht, but inter-island ferries and small planes make it possible without one. December to May is the dry season; September and October carry the highest storm risk.
