South America
Table-top mountains, the world's highest waterfall and Caribbean reefs.
Venezuela holds some of the most extraordinary landscapes in South America. In Canaima National Park, Angel Falls plunges from the flat top of Auyán-tepui, and Mount Roraima rises from the savannah of the Gran Sabana. The Los Roques archipelago has coral reefs and white sand, the Orinoco Delta is a maze of forested channels, and the Andean city of Mérida sits below snow-capped peaks.
Travellers should check their government's current travel advice before planning, as conditions and access can change quickly. Those who do go usually rely on trusted local operators, domestic flights and arepas eaten on the move. December to April is the dry season, best for most of the country, though Angel Falls flows most dramatically in the rainy months.
