The world's highest uninterrupted waterfall
Angel Falls drops 979 metres from the top of Auyán-tepui, one of the flat-topped sandstone mountains of Canaima National Park, making it the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall. Its Indigenous Pemón name is Kerepakupai Merú. It is named after Jimmie Angel, an American pilot who flew over it in 1933. There are no roads: visits start at Canaima village, by the pink-tinged lagoon, with boat journeys upriver and a jungle walk to a viewpoint below the falls. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
