North America
Sheltered sailing waters, giant boulders and barefoot beach bars.
The British Virgin Islands are a cluster of around fifty islands and cays, and one of the world's great sailing grounds. Tortola is the main island, Virgin Gorda has The Baths, where huge granite boulders form grottoes and pools on the beach, and Jost Van Dyke's White Bay is famous for its beach bars. Flat, coral-fringed Anegada is known for lobster and empty sands.
Most visitors charter a yacht or hop by ferry, moving between anchorages and snorkelling spots such as the Caves at Norman Island. Evenings mean rum drinks and grilled seafood by the water. December to April is dry and breezy, ideal for sailing; September carries the highest hurricane risk.
