The sea of seven colours
San Andrés lies closer to Nicaragua than to mainland Colombia, and it is known for water that shades from turquoise to deep blue, often called the sea of seven colours. The native Raizal people speak an English-based creole, and their culture shows in wooden houses and food like rondón, a seafood and coconut stew. Snorkel at the West View, take boats to Johnny Cay and the Acuario, and ride around the island by golf cart. The smaller and quieter island of Providencia is reached by plane or boat.
