A medieval old town with a digital heartbeat
Tallinn's Old Town is a walled Hanseatic city of cobbled lanes, merchant houses and church spires, split between the upper town on Toompea hill and the lower town around Town Hall Square. Viewing platforms on Toompea look over red roofs to the sea. Beyond the walls, the old industrial quarter of Telliskivi and the Kalamaja district of wooden houses have filled with cafés and design shops, while Kadriorg Park holds a Baroque palace built for Peter the Great. Helsinki is a short ferry ride away.
