Mole National Park

Walking with elephants in the northern savannah

Mole National Park covers a large swathe of savannah woodland in northern Ghana. Its elephants are the main draw, often seen at the waterholes below the escarpment where the park's accommodation sits. Guided walking safaris get close to elephants, antelope, warthogs and baboons, and the park has a large bird list. Nearby Larabanga has a mud-built mosque in the Sudano-Sahelian style, among the oldest in West Africa. The dry season brings the best wildlife viewing.
