Central Europe's largest lake and summer playground
Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and Hungary's favourite summer destination. The shallow southern shore, with resorts such as Siófok, suits families and party-goers, while the northern shore is quieter, with wine villages and volcanic hills. Visit the Tihany Peninsula and its Benedictine abbey, the lakeside town of Keszthely with the Festetics Palace, and nearby Hévíz, home of a large natural thermal lake.
