Ireland's classic coastal loop
The Ring of Kerry is a circular route of about 180 kilometres around the Iveragh Peninsula in southwest Ireland. It starts and ends in Killarney, whose national park holds lakes, Muckross House and the Gap of Dunloe. The road passes Ireland's highest mountains, the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, stone forts, colourful villages like Sneem, and long beaches such as Rossbeigh. From Portmagee, boats go in summer to Skellig Michael, a rocky island with an early medieval monastery. The Skellig Ring detour is quieter and even more dramatic.
