The north coast's sheltered bay and nightlife
Grand Baie is the busiest resort area in Mauritius, curved around a sheltered bay on the north coast. The calm water suits swimming, sailing and glass-bottomed boat trips, and catamaran cruises head out to the islets of Coin de Mire, Île Plate and Gabriel Island. The town has the island's liveliest restaurants and bars. Nearby Pereybère has a small public beach, and the Pamplemousses botanical garden, known for its giant water lilies, is a short drive inland.
