Rhinos and tigers in the lowland jungle
Chitwan was Nepal's first national park and is a UNESCO site of grassland, sal forest and rivers in the Terai lowlands. It is one of the best places in Asia to see the greater one-horned rhinoceros, and it also shelters Bengal tigers, sloth bears and gharial. Explore by jeep safari, on guided jungle walks or by canoe on the Rapti River. The village of Sauraha is the main base, where Tharu cultural dances are performed in the evening.
