Sherpa villages on the trail to Everest
The Khumbu, protected as Sagarmatha National Park, is where the trek to Everest Base Camp begins, usually from a flight into the small airstrip at Lukla. The trail climbs through Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa trading town, to Tengboche Monastery and the high villages of Dingboche and Lobuche. Kala Patthar gives the best close view of Everest's summit. Allow around two weeks for the round trip, with rest days to acclimatise. Spring and autumn are the main seasons.
