Inca terraces and Andean villages
Between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Urubamba river runs through a fertile valley lined with Inca terraces and traditional villages. Ollantaytambo is a living Inca town with a dramatic hillside fortress, Pisac has ruins and a busy market, and the circular terraces of Moray and the salt pans of Maras are unlike anything else. Its lower altitude makes it a good place to acclimatise.
