A high-altitude lake of island communities
Lake Titicaca straddles Peru and Bolivia at about 3,800 metres, one of the highest navigable lakes in the world. From the port of Puno, boats visit the floating islands the Uros people build from totora reeds, and islands like Taquile and Amantaní, where families host overnight stays. The light is dazzling and the nights are cold, so pack layers.
