Mughal splendour and Pakistan's food capital
Lahore was a great Mughal city, and its monuments are among the finest in South Asia. The Lahore Fort, with its mirrored Sheesh Mahal, faces the red sandstone Badshahi Mosque across a square, and the Wazir Khan Mosque inside the walled city is covered in tile work and frescoes. The Shalimar Gardens are a UNESCO site. Lahore takes its food seriously, from the eateries of Gawalmandi and Fort Road to breakfast of halwa puri, and the Wagah border ceremony is an easy trip.
